Student reviews of Leonard Kleinman

Review from a student who took 303k
Kleinman is a sorry excuse for a professor, who is power hungry and wants to ruin lives by boring you to death or giving you bad grades. He thrives on the knowledge that every hates him. He screwed me over by losing my test and is trying to make me take a final 6 months after I was in the course. I never knew where his class was held, and the first time I saw him was the first test. If you have to take 303k... and Kleinman is your professor, CHANGE YOUR MAJOR or drop out of UT.
Review from a student who took PHY 303K
I felt this class was complete waste of time. I took his PHY 303K Spring '03, and I stopped going to lecture sometime in February. The only reason you should take this professor is if you have a FIRM grasp of the material before hand. I came into this class with a fairly good grasp of the material (kinematics, forces, gravity, etc.) and I'm going to make an A because the poor people who don't know what they are doing before hand FAIL horribly because Kleinman doesn't teach worth crap and the class is graded on the average performance of the class. However, if you want to actually learn something, don't take this class, period.

Don't take Kleinman, period end of story! He's the worst teacher I've had so far at UT. He doesn't care at all about the progress of his students and is very unapproachable. His lectures are completely worthless. If you have to take him I suggest going to Dr. Turner's lectures. He's really great and definitely helped me to pass this class.

Believe all the above people...i don't even goto his lectures and i am not missing nethign as i hear from my friends who attend class.

Do not take this professor unless your life depends on it! Everything is done through the web, homework load is pretty heavy, and you learn absolutely nothing in lecture. Class time is spent deriving equations or speeding through example problems. Barely anyone shows up to class, as few as 3 out of a class of 130. Tests are more difficult than the homework and you can seriously study for one and still fail it.

This profesor is good example why tenure should sometimes be exempted. His lectures are boring and pointless. And when youa re in the lectures you can't hear him even with a microphone. The material had to be learned by yourself or other peers.I recommend taking anyone else but Klieman.

DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY EVER.....HE IS BORING AND HIS CLASSES ARE AT 8 AM AND ITS TOO COLD TO SIT THERE.......LISTEN TO ME AND DON'T GET YOURSELF INTO A MESS
Review from a student who took PHY 303K
He should retire. He is way too old to teach students (especially in 8 am classes), and lots of times in class he even does not know what he is doing. If there is anyway you can not take him, don't take him, it is as simple as that. He does not teach, he just goes over equations. He even blocks the board when he does that, and erases his work right after he writes it down. If you do not have prior knowledge to physics, you won't do well unless you are good at studying at your own. His grades are based on the curve of the class and also suck as the amount of C's he gives is around 40% of the class...

If you have taken the AP, and almost got a good enough grade to skip both 303k and 303l, but didn't simply because you didn't know the electromagnetism material, or if you just are a whiz at kinematics/statics, by all means take Kleinman, and get an easy A you don't need to show up for (he doesn't take attendance). Otherwise, AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE! I was one of the lucky ones in that I basically knew all the material from the get go, unfortunatly this meant that I was the one who got stuck explaining it to my friends who didn't take AP physics in High school, and were thus completely boned, as he is perhaps the worst lecturer known to man! The homework load is also quite heavy, especially for students still adjusting to college, and frequently will help you very little on his tests. All that aside, if you get a 70+ test average you will probably get an A (if you do almost all the homework)or at least a B (if you do maybe half the homework), as a most people in the class are going to be getting 30's, so 30 point curves are not out of the question. Unfortunately, this doesn't help most people, as it just sets them squarely at a 60, and even if they do the homework, they still probably end up with a C or a D. So once again, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ALREADY KNOW THE MATERIAL, because Kleinman will teach you NOTHING.
