While this guy wants to teach well, he does a pretty shit job at it. His voice is so monotone it's hard to force yourself to stay awake in class (if you go that is). The first test was ok because he followed what the other professors teaching the course were doing. After that he decided that the average was too high and started swapping out the easy test questions for hard ones, saying that if the averages were proportionally higher than the other classes, he would curve the class more. He did end up giving a big curve at the end but I personally didn't learn anything I hadn't in high school and wasted my time in that class.

Erskine's curriculum looks nice on the syllabus but he fucks it up to the tenth degree. Even if you memorized the whole damn textbook beforehand, the weekly homework is time-consuming and the tests barely passable: don't expect the curve to save you. The lecture quizzes are super specific and ruin whatever study schedule you want to set up, and even cover the last two chapters if he thinks the first one wasn't good enough. The final is the worst, because its a culmination of all the lowest-scored material from the homework, quizzes, and previous tests. As for the lectures themselves, if you don't fall asleep to his monotone voice then you have to decipher his pre-printed notes at the lightning speed he goes through them. He expects you to memorize an average ten pages worth of not just equations, but entire methods that he specifically uses in all of the quizzes and tests. His notation rotates so often that he won't notice when he makes mistakes and refuses to accept them if they are pointed out. His TA's hate him because even they don't understand his answer to questions as simple as "what's going to be covered on the test?". Drop the class, because by mid-semester all of the failing students will, and - assuming you're average - you'll be left at the bottom of the curve.

Erskine seems like a nice dude but he is a horrible professor. Lectures are his monotone voice reading through notes that he probably wrote 10 years ago. Nearly impossible to follow along or understand anything he is trying to teach. He somehow makes semi-easy concepts seems impossible. If you are forced to take him, read the book and watch youtube videos or something, it's pretty much the only way you'll learn. Also there are a bunch of in-class quizzes. So the lectures are completely useless but you're forced to go because there might be a pop quiz. Also his fingernails are disgusting and they're always in the middle of the projector.
