Review from a student who took PHY 303K
Hoffman was interesting. I remember his class centers around his tests. His tests are all done symbolically (no numbers). You have to have a good understanding to do well. He isn't that great with explaining everything and I never had a great handle on all the forces. This class' grades were skewed by those who took AP Physics in HS, but didn't take the test. They saw all this material for a second time and newcomers (like myself) found the curve difficult to stay above.

Not an easy professor. But, a good one nonetheless. I took his honors class, but I hear his regular class is exactly the same His test are open book, but are quite challenging and don't have numbers. You must do his homework if you want to survive. He doesn't like people who don't do his homework. He only takes attendace occasionally but if you don't go to class he'll notice and you won't get any sympathy. He is intresting to listen to and has a pretty good personality but I don't think he liked me personally very much. Hard to tell, he's kind of dry.

i took his class during summer school, and his grading was pretty easy. 40% grade came from attendance. He pretty much gave us the 5 test questions for one test before class if you got there early. His final sucked, but i thought he was really funny and interesting. His notes were useless and his tests were all symbol type. I'd recommend him, do the HW and u'll be set. Not very hard to make a B in his class
