Davis is probably one of the best professors ever! He literally teaches the course (unlike others) and all you have to do is come to class, take good notes, listen, and do your work. Imagine that, a teacher that actually wants you to work for you grade. Some people say he's difficult, I thought his course was pretty straight forward. Chemistry isn't easy and I had a horrible Chemistry teacher in high school so I had to work harder for my A. He's also very fair in that he'll give you space to improve IF you talk to him. You get bonus webquiz points (free points basically) if you do your work and if you're afraid of being borderline, he'll check your homework grades. If you're diligent and he knows you care, he'll bump you up to the next highest level if you're borderline. VERY understanding guy and interesting to talk to. Plus, sometimes, those questions he puts on the homework WILL be on his exams. Don't be fooled, the first one is easy but after that, he'll get trickier. Totally recommend Davis. Sad that he isn't teaching CH 302 in the spring for 2005.

DO YOUR WEBQUIZZES!! SO many people in my class came within a fraction of a point to getting an A. They are strictly bonus. DO THEM. It's a huge class so you have to want to learn this and he will help you with whatever you need. Lectures can be boring and repetative with a few witty remarks in there. Overall a good professor.

i took davis for 301 and 302. it was okay, you need to work hard for an A, but not as much for a B (knock on wood). his tests are pretty challenging, and require alot of effort. his lectures get a little boring after a while even though he is loud and demands you to listen. everything is via the hw server, so you basically have to do everything on your own. you have to put forth the effort to get the grade you want. his web quizzes are extra credit and hw does not count. basically, you have to keep up with the work load, be willing to teach yourself, and do the hw even though they do not count.

Davis wrote the damn book so he knows exactly how to screw you over. He knows the type of questions you have access to in the book and in the practice books. I suggest you mostly worry about the homework, which is hard to do since they don't count for any points. Class is boring, i suggest you do other work in it while listening to him absent mindedly, and then only write down the important stuff. best 3 out of 4 tests with bonus points coming from online quizzes. (boosts you overall by 3 points potentially). I suggest study groups for him since he gives you so many problems to work through, if you don't do this just grill the TA for a couple hours before the exam like i did on stuff you don't know and you'll do fine (this is how i avoided completely teaching myself). IF YOU DON'T DO ANY OF THESE YOU WILL BE FORCED TO TEACH YOURSELF IN THIS CLASS. Overall not too bad of a course just make sure you do one of the above. Oh yeah, for the final just go over old tests and work every problem since about half the final comes from these.

This class is so easy. Its a review of high school chemistry but at a slightly faster pace. There is so much extra credit available so do it. You dont need to go to class at all because the homework can teach you everything you need to know if you know how to do it (just do it while looking at the book). One thing more: don't buy that ripoff book- i dont care if he burns an old edition in class and its super funny to you. Dont buy the new one, its a waste of money. Use this site or half.com to get used books and save a lot of your money

He's a pretty good teacher. The lectures are pretty straight forward and relevant to the test marterial. The material is probably going to be a review of stuff you learned in high school. If you already know chem well the material through the first test is incredibley boring. I didn't go to class very often, but it was just review for me. I would go if you don't already know the stuff. I got an A, but barely, so i probably should suggest going to class if you really want a certain grade and i would defenitley do the extra credit in case you have a borderline grade at the end of the semester. I think the grading reflects how well you know the material; the tests were definitely fair and the tests averages were pretty good. I would suggest taking the class

I loved Dr. Davis. He definitely knows his shit, since he wrote the book you will use! The class can be really difficult and the workload is very high. You have weekly homeworks you have to do, and frequently there are in class quizzes. You take 4 tests and a final, and you drop the lowest test grade. There is a lot of room to improve if you get off to a bad start in this class. I really liked it even though I fought hard for Bs.

Fair professor, boring lectures, but he wrote the book so all you have to do is read the book. His homework is a lot like his tests, know the concepts b/c he will throw some at you from the test. Do all of the webquizzes and homeworks try to do good b/c if you are borderline you will need to show him you tried. Nice and fair guy! Take his class

Davis is good teacher, if you have the discipline to come to class and concentrate on his lectures. He tries really hard to get you to understand the material... I mean, he's the only teacher I know that visibly breaks a sweat every single time he teaches. :) If you take this class and got an A, that means you have worked hard. Getting that A means that you have spent hours going over each and every homework problem so that you know how to do it when it comes up on the test, teaching yourself the material from the textbook so you can fill in the gaps of what you missed in lecture, and having the discipline to do webquizzes and optional homework. However, I think that once the class is over, you will have a pretty good grasp of Gen Chem II -- It just won't always be exciting.
