Pretty cool guy... Mccord can be really funny if he wants, and his lectures are really effective... His teaching style is easy to understand and he helps you understand what will be on the tests and such... The homework helps you understand the calculations, and if you study those, the exams, and read the book (only once, for concepts) then you should get an A in the class...

good luck. this man is the devil in a hawaiian shirt. i am lucky to have passed this class.mccord was the epitome of monotony. every class i learned to fear going to more and more until finally i just stopped going. the tests were impossible and there was not enough time to complete them. the final was awful. if you take this professor from hell, be sure to have a photographic memory, so you can memorize the entire book, and then work the problems on the test at the rate of 5 minutes per problem. take someone else. this course is bad enough without the worst professor to teach it.

Dr.McCord is an excellent professor. I was really confused about chemistry in high school, but he made chemistry understandable to me. He?s really cares about how well the class is doing. Not only are his exams extremely easy, he also curves very leniently and gives extra credit points. I think if you go to all of the lectures and do all the homework, you will ace the class with no problem. That?s another important point: do the homework even though it doesn?t count for a grade. A lot of the exam problems are similar if not the homework problems. I really enjoyed his class. He even played songs for us before Thanksgiving break. Dr.McCord is a really nice guy on top of a good professor.

I highly recommend going to the weekly discussion with the TA. Do your homework and work problems in the book. I hardly read (only did when I was confused and needed to read more in depth). I went to review, worked lots of problems, and went to class and I made an A. I hardly ever read. Do the extra credit assignments and it'll provide a little cushion for the exams.

This guy is a straight up son of a bitch. Don't get me wrong, his class is not hard in the least, his tests are almost exactly like the homework. After the first week of class, I stopped attending for a month, and still got an A in the class. The problem with this class is that your grade all comes down to the standard bell curve. So your competing with the rest of the class. Mccord doesn't teach worth a damn and I am not joking. He just sticks the book under the projector and mentions things very very generally, but the homework is very specific. He is also a bitch about units, he gives everything in the wrong units even at the end of the class. You will learn absolutley nothing from the lecture, so don't attend. Be prepared to learn on your own. Worst of all his personality stinks. He is just an asshole. He wastes 20 minutes of every class talking about either how bad the class did or how he did this stuff when he was in elementary school. He basically just likes using scare tactics. If you want to just cruise and not do that much work and get a C, then take this guy and dont attend his class because he will upset you. If you want to learn something and/or not be pissed off at him all the time, then avoid him and insult him in the hallway.

I recall McCord's nonmajor chemistry couse to be rather average. Sometimes, I felt very sleepy during the lectures. There are other times when I remember him being quite humorous. The tests were somewhat fair and multiple-choice. I use the term somewhat fair, since the questions tended to be more difficult and complex than the homework questions.

Don't read the text; skim it. Go to class and take good notes. McCord is really funny! If you're lucky, he'll bring his guitar to lecture one day and serenade you with chemistry lyrics to tom petty tunes! Homework was sometimes a bitch, but working with other students to come up with an answer can really help you out. His tests aren't that bad either, and at the end of the semester, he'll distribute the percentage of your test, quiz, and hw scores in a way that is most advantagous to your final grade.

Mccord is a nice guy, but his class is pretty tough. You can study for hours, know the material.. and still bomb his tests. He uses some pretty big curves at the end of the semester which are really helpful, but if you're looking for an easy teacher, this isn't it.

I don't really like Dr. McCord. He basically goes up and points to things in the book with the overhead projector. It's this teaching style that makes me fall asleep and it doesn't seem very interesting at all. My classmates also complained of the same thing (ie him pointing to the book) and said the class would have been of more value if they simply stood outside the class and read the book. I don't recommend Dr. McCord. I pass-failed it and probably made a D. You're better off with another professor in terms of grades. But if you like nice profs, then McCord is a nice prof. Just a hard grader.

Anyone who thinks this class is hard did not try. He is very fair and simply expects you to read the material and study (IMAGINE THAT!). He is very easy and I would highly recommend him.

I hate this man. I made an A in CH 302 under Davis and then having McCord was like a slap in the face. He teaches but...I wasn't too keen on his method, or for that matter, him. His lectures were general. They never extensively covered the material. In Davis' class, I felt that he never left a page uncovered but with McCord, he'd lecture over topics briefly and then would make mistakes over things in class. His mistakes sometimes cost me a question on the webquiz, which he gives 5 questions usually. I went to every single lecture and actively took notes, did every single homework assignment and pulled a C. Avoid this man and Kohl like plague. I'd highly recommend Davis or Laude. If you can't get them, then wait till you can, this man will only bring your GPA down.

This is the easiest CH 302. His tests are the easiest. All you need to do is review ur hw, quiz, and tests of people who took the class previously. You need to go to class by the way but if u miss it reading the textbook should help alot

Dr. McCord is a nice guy but don't let that fool you. his tests are incredibly hard and sometimes do not cover material he talked about. Although his lectures are laid back, they do not help.he doesn't explain things and just expects you to understand it and just tells you to read the book. he doesn't explain things much and expects the TA to do his job for him. my advice, don't take him he's terrible

His tests are hard as hell and very grade stingy. I had a few points above average in the class and received a C. I would not recommend.

mccord was the MAN. his grading scale was fair enough, and if you went to class and DID the hw you could ace the class. tests were straight forward, not too many tricky exceptions to the rule problems, maybe one on each. this has been my favorite class by far. he is funny, his lectures make you think, and he keeps you motivated. you will want to make an A in his class.

Personable and a good professor. He expects you to remember highschool chem, sure, but it's general concept material and basic formulas. If you apply yourself you can definitely make a good mark in this class. I made a B, but only because I missed far too many classes, and believe me, a B was generous. His curves on tests are fair and quite helpful. The website for his course is extremely helpful and I wouldn't have been able to get through without it. The final was fair. Recommended.

He's not as bad as people make him out to be. Pretty fair on grading. I'd try to get into Laude or Davis first but if you end up w/ McCord, it's REALLY NOT the end of the world.

One of the worst professors i've had at UT. He doesn't lecture, never goes over the homework specifically. He flat out told us he would make the tests "As hard as possible" and they were, I made a D in there all because of his damn final, our class avg was a 48 and on his webpage he put, "Ouch"....he's a heartless bastard. I had a friend who TA'd for him and he said he liked to make his students squirm or something like that

Professor McCord made it known quickly what he thought about our class; we were dubbed, "not very bright". His teaching style is nothing more than point at the book and saying, "You need to know this", nothing more. Through the whole semester you do not know where you really stand in the class ranks and your whole grade is in limbo until you see it on a grade report. I would recommend avoiding Professor McCord like the plague and find ANYONE else, heck take CH 456 it's actually easier. I would assume from talking to my classmates at this time that ~10% of the class made A's, 10-40% B's and the majority was C's. Good luck to those of you stuck with this cynical and lethargic man.

McCord's fair. Hard, but fair. He expects you to have taken (and remembered) high school chem, which is probably the hardest thing about him. His tests are...tough. Because he tests you on exceptions, not general cases. So study. But he's fair, and lecture's pretty interesting.

Dr. McCord is a nice guy, but his lectures suck and his tests are not what he teaches. I went to the reviews and did the homeworks and still dropped his class. If it hadn't been for the TA, I probably would have done worse. So unless you have a really, REALLY, good TA, don't take him.

Dr. Mccord is awesome. I was reading all the other reviews in shock seeing as many of the students commented that he just references the book during his lectures. In my class he did anything but that. He hand wrote everything he was teaching us to make it easy to get the important information. He is a very passionate and engaging teacher that makes you love the subject (hated chemistry in high school but love it now). He is such a great teacher I found it was hard not to do well. I just attended class and read the chapters in the book and I got an easy A. I wish he taught every class at UT, I'm already signed up for another one of his classes next semester!
