Student reviews of John White

Review from a student who took Ch 302
Do not take this class if you do not already have a strong chemistry background (and can learn on your own by using the book). You can study all the notes, work the hw problems, and take the online quizzes and still be disappointed when test time comes. I attended all the lectures up until the 1st exam, scored well on the e-quizzes, worked th hw problems, and attended the the prolem sessions, but still ended up making a "D" on the exam. The good thing is that the lowest test is dropped, but I just don't think that his teaching(lack there of)/lecture style works for me. I learn by examples and seeing the problems worked out...which he does not do.

Dr. White has a nice personality. He loves to entertain the class with his singing, however he does not really lecture all too well. He is very broad with the material, but once you become adjusted to that and learn what he wants you to know, his tests should be very easy. He curves each test by a few questions, like taking a 22 out of 25 as a 100. He drops the lowest test grade and his questions are never too detailed. He always focuses on the broad concepts of chemistry. Overall, I found his class to be fairly easy.

Dr. White is a very nice guy. His test is kinda tricky. But you have to get used to his style of teaching and style of learning. Make sure to go to class the day before class, he usually give reviews of what MIGHT be ont he test. His personality is really great. He loves to sing in class too. Not to bad of a singer, but his song sucks. He's a train maniac. he loves that train stuff. werid but true. Overall, he is a great teacher and making an A is not to difficult if you attened classes.

Dr White has a great personality and is very easy to talk to. Overall, he's a great guy. His lectures can sometimes bet kind of boring (although I happen to be one of those people that learns everything from the book rather than class). I would definetly recommend someone to take his class b/c he is such a nice guy and cares about his students. Some of his tests have tricky problems on them, so you can't rush through it.
Review from a student who took CH 302
I'll start by saying he is a really nice guy. Very jovial and kids with students all the time. Thats about where the good stops. You have e-quizes which can boost your grade up to 2 points but they're often tricky and i've had several times where the answers were put in by the person running it incorrectly so I missed them when I had actually put the correct answer. Like the other reviewer of 302 said, hope you had him before or have a very strong chem background. You'll be doing all of your learning primarily out of the book and even then tests are pretty hit or miss. I've got ~B in there but i'm really struggling with the tests and I usually do very well on chemistry tests.
Review from a student who took ch302
Take this class if you want to teach chemistry to yourself. The book is pretty straighforward, but his tests have a lot confusing conceptual problems. This was a problem because you have to read the problems very carefully, but there were always lots of people finishing at the last minute, so you can't waste time either. He curves the tests by making 20/22 a hundred and then taking off five points per problem from there, but watch out becuase on the last two tests there was no longer a curve. He's really a nice guy and will kindly help you if you ask a question, but the lectures don't completely prepare you for the tests. If you like straighfoward math-based chemistry or want the test material clearly explained to you in lecture, i would look for another professor.
