Dr. Laude's class was very interesting. He does alot of experiments, including blowing up an oxygen-filled ballon with hydrogen. He also serves the class nitrogen ice cream and pie at the end of the year, which is great. His quizzes are very easy if you study a little. His tests require a little bit more studying than the quizzes. Never skip a review session for the test. He goes over each specific concept on the test, so that helps out a lot. However, there is no curve on the tests or quizzes. All the tests and quizzes are mutiple choice. No essays or free-response questions. There is also no online homework like other professors do. But if you make an A average for the semseter before the final, you will be exempt from the final. However, I had 2 years of high school chemistry and only needed CH 301 for my major. For those you who aren't so good in chemistry, I recommend someone else, except Davis. Never take Davis, he gives tons of hw. Otherwise,if you're looking for an easy-going class and only need 301, get Laude.

Hopelessely Hilarious. Definitely tries to put some fun in teaching but sometimes oversimplifies. Requires student to learn most of the material on their own while just being a guide. His tests are pretty difficult but he does have extra credit and well balanced grading procedures. If you are looking for a fun, laid-back I don't care too much about grades kinda class, this is perfect for you. If not, then you may want to consider someone else.

Dr. Laude has a fantastic personality; his lectures are really intesting. However, I felt that he spent more time blowing things up than teaching. He's really personable, which is cool, but not when he wastes too much class time making jokes. I'm sure for 301 he would have been the best teacher to take, since 301 is relatively simple and is just basics. 302 is more in depth, and requires more than 301. It was a fun class, but I don't think I got what I expected from him. Take him if you want to be entertained during class but are really good at teaching yourself outside of class.

It is really hard to hate the guy. his test are EXTREMELY tricky, so read very carefully. the class average tends to be in the 70s, and you will be infurated with him, but the next day he will bring out his charm and make you laugh. you will need to read the book, and do the homework if you want to do good in his tests. create a chemistry network because it will come handy for when you are submitting HW at 11pm. i recomend him, though beware of his tests. he will curve somewhat in the end, but don't expect a big curve.

This is one of the easiest classes I have ever taken at the university. The lecture notes are all posted on the internet, and overall there is very little notetaking to be done. You don't have to go to class, but you will since you never know when he is going to explode something, or at least catch something on fire. The liquid nitrogen ice cream at the end of the year is great. The exams are VERY fair, and Dr. Laude's grading scheme makes it pretty easy to get an A without much effort. He does tend to simplify things too much, which is a little bit of a problem if you don't have a chemistry background but are planning to go onto O.Chem.

I think the best thing about Laude is that he uses his own course packet rather than the textbook. It makes a lot more sense than the textbook, and he teaches right off of his course packet. If you have the packet, go to lecture, and his review sessions, then you're set. His review sessions are excellent.

It may be too soon to say, but I personally think Dr Laude is a great professor. Some people have told me that he oversimplifies things and that what he teaches us won't be applicable in upper-level chemistry classes, but so far, he has given me a better understanding of chemistry more than anyone else has. I did take 2 years of chemistry in high school, which gave me an advantage, but Dr Laude is easy to understand. He has his own course packet, and puts up lecture notes promptly after class about 95% of the time. He is funny, and does really cool experiments! He also makes an effort to hold his own help and review sessions. Go to those because they really help. I say..TAKE DR LAUDE!

i love this class and dr. laude as well! he's a very funny and nice guy! but this class is not easy if you don't work hard. good things, you dont have to attend to his lectures, because the notes and video recorded of his lectures posted online. but remember to come to review sections before the test day, do the hw even though it's optional, and come to TA sections for help. there were 6 quizzes, but he will drop 2 lowest one, and 3 tests. if your grade is an A after the 3rd test then you're exempt from the final, if you're making high B then don't worry, he will give a big but off. and for those people never come to class, or you choose to bomb the test and quizzes!!! there's an option for you to take just the final only, and that will be your grade for the course. if you make an A on the final, there you go A for the course. so take him, if you're NOT a lazy person! have fun and good luck!

The class is super easy.. just gotta pay attention to the little details that you overlook when the material's semi-easy. But all the testing is done by scantron, so like when there's not a lot of questions and you mess up on a few.. not so good. But Laude himself is cool! He makes it interesting, blowing stuff up n all! His lectures are really general, so all the details you gotta learn yourself or go to discussion which actually helps (Anna's sessions). You should take his class! highly recommended!

Great Prof. Makes all of the material really easy to understand. He dumbs it down a lot which is great. He's also really funny. Even his course notes are interesting. Definetly try to get him for your prof.

Laude's great, but only if you have a solid background in chemistry to begin with. My chem teacher in high school sucked, so I basically walked into CH301 with a clean slate. He goes through the material way too quickly for anyone without a good background in chem to understand, but he definitely makes lectures interesting.

This guy wants you to learn the material but does not want you to get anything less than an A. What more can you ask? Sure, most of the things you learn are shortcuts and tricks, but who cares? If you want to learn things the absolute technical way, then go read the book. Unless you're going to be a chemist or chemical engineer, he teaches you all you need to know in life while leaving your gpa unharmed (actually boosting it). Also very easy to talk to, funny, interesting lecturer.

Dr. Laude tried to make class interesting and had a unique style of teaching. He offers many study sessions with the TA's weekly. You should definately take advantage of them, (I didn't and I regret it.) The grading is pretty fair, but the class is no walk in the park. You have to stay on top of the material if you don't understand something. He's all about the big picture.

this class was HARD!! he's a fun teacher..but he isnt a good teacher...he doesn't teach! to know how to do the stuff you gotta figure it out for your self. he makes you think you know the material when actually dont, and the tests are horrible! i had to study my butt off to even pull of a B on the final. it sucked.

I didn't like Laude at all. One of my friends recommended him to me to take for CH 301 and I thought it would be alright. His quizzes are not bad at all if you study for them, but his tests are a bitch. He says they are just like his quizzes but they aren't! I felt like he put stuff on there that he didn't go over sometimes and on the tests he turns his questions around and makes you find answers another way than how you have practiced on the quizzes. However, I guess if you are really good at chem, the good thing abotu his class is that you can exempt the final if you average an A. But ifyou do have to take the final, beware cause its 75 problems in 3 hours, and trust me that's a lot of problems!! I ran out of time. I dont know. Overall, I didnt like him, and I wouldnt recommend him.

Funny and sarcastic guy, but the laziest professor I've had so far. The quizzes are just like the practice ones he goes over in class for you, study more for the exams because they are much harder (despite what he says). I felt confident going into the test every time, but didnt do as well as I had hoped because alot of questions are worded differently on the exams than what he says in class. Also, speaking of laziness, Laude is big on shortcuts, which though nice at times, don't work all the time. If you go to his review sessions before exams, buy the course packet (btw, some questions in it have mistakes), and ask whatever questions you have at office hrs or help sessions, you can do well.

This will certainly be one of the easier courses you will take. There was no homework for our class this year. Six quizzes, three tests. If you find you are having any trouble, Dr. Laude will go to quite some lengths to help you. Between Dr. Laude and the TAs, they have multiple office hours, each day, during all of Mon-Fri. Go to the review sessions when you need to, ask the questions that you have, and you should be guaranteed an A. And you also have the option to exempt your final, which is always fun.

Dr. Laude is fantastic. He has a wonderful energy and genuinely cares about his students (all 400 of them too). Don't be fooled though, just because he's a nice guy and a good prof doesn't mean his exams aren't hard. Any way you cut it, he's the best prof for CH 301 and 302.

It can go both ways in this class: it could be hard b/c he's entertaining but u dont really get the crap he's talkin about or it could be entertaining and you do well by going to the discussions, study groups, office hours.... either way its going to take a lot of ur time. I say take him b/c all the other teachers are teaching the same way but at least he's fun and approachable. Chemistry will be time consuming and a lil tricky with any professor.... that is if they are teaching it correctlly.

Dr. Laude is a fun prof especially since it is dealing with Chemistry. He may be sacastic at times, but he tries to make the fun and comprehendable for everyone , all 400 or so of us. His tests aren't the easiest ever... some effort has to be put into studying, but I have to say he is a fair grader. If you try your best, go to help sessions, and go to the review sessionbefore exams/final you should be OK. I did all of the above, and I studied the day before the tests (7PM-1AM is the usual study time I had for this class)... I came out with an A.
