She's very nice like most people say. I've ran into a lot of trouble this Fall 05 and she's been very helpful and understanding. She genuinely cares about her students. Discussions are only a small part of the grade and depending on the TA, you'll get help or no help at all, but that varies every semester since the TA changes. I would recommend her class. It is alot of reading and material to cover, but Buskirk goes over them thoroughly during her lectures although sometimes she does get sidetracked. Do her handouts and definitely APPLY what you learn because that's what she's most interested in. I disagree with the person who said Buskirk wasn't a good professor. I would highly recommend her. For the faint of heart and looking for an easy way out, sure take someone else, but for those that want to learn, take BUSKIRK!!! You'll walk away with alot. And if you do run into problems, academic or health-wise, whatever, don't be afraid to talk to Buskirk because she will listen and try to help you as best as she can.

i dont know why everyone says that buskirk is like the best bio teacher..her tests are really hard.. you have to study for them like 24 hours a day.. yah she's nice and blah..but if ur not willing to study..dont take buskirk..take sathasvian!
Review from a student who took BIO 301E
Professor Buskirk's really nice and she does seem to give a lot of A's but I agree that her lectures seem disorganized at times. She has an agenda written out and generally gets through it pretty well but sometimes she'll write things down that don't seem to flow well. If you read the book and look at her handouts you should do fine however. Ian (her discussion leader) is really funny but sort of quirky too.

I don't understand why some people don't like this lady. She is a very sweet person (kind of reminds me of my mom)and definately not out to get you. She encourages questions in her class and really cares that you understand the material. She always writes the topics covered in lecture on the board so its easy to follow what she says. She uses alot of hand gestures in class, especially when she is trying to stress something that will be on the test. To do well in the class, use the book to answer the review questions for each chapter that she gives you and even if you procrastinate (like me, and I'm definately not one of those showoffs who think calculus is easy or anything) you can do well. *also, there is no homework and tests are not easy but not hard if you can APPLY your knowledge

I cannot STAND this class. Sure, the class is easy, I barely studied for the first test and pulled an A. In fact, 44% of the class made an A. But otherwise, I HATE her lectures...I despise having to attend them. I can barely hear her, even when I sit in the middle. She says 'um' all the time, as if she doesn't know where to go with the lecture, which is no surprise because the lectures are soo disorganized. She'll be talking about one topic and a second later, a totally unrelated topic. AHHHH!!! Her TA is awesome though.

WOW! Amazing professor. She makes the lecture very interesting most of the time and uses lots of visuals to you understand the concepts. However, her tests are sometimes confusing...She really makes you think!

This lady is like your grandmother. If your grandmother went on safari in Africa to study monkeys and knew everything about science. I really liked Dr. Buskirk's class. She's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the class material. VERY thorough. The class is hard work if you want an A. Do readings beforehand, take GOOD notes on both the book and the lectures. It is a lot of material, and you must remember it all and be able to synthesize it and apply one topic to another. I think there were 2 tests and a comprehensive final. Tests are MC and short answer. Lecture and discussion attendance also are a small portion of the grade. She's a very fair grader. Discussions, although mandatory, were not very helpful. This class is a lot of work and the material is not easy, but you will learn SO MUCH. I would highly recommend Dr. Buskirk.
