Twombly's class is basically easy. The essay assignments were handed out well before they were due, though his lectures didn't pertain to anything about the essays, poems, or novels we were reading at the time. He likes to compare his thoughts on the readings to his memories of his father, mother, aunts/family members and ends up not making a point in the end. Despite this, his class was easy and in the end, he cancelled the final because he realized that his lectures did not prepare us for one. Great guy!

Lectures are awful! There is NO need to go to them. Go to your dicussion session because that's where you'll learn everything for the paper. 6 two page papers, just be analytical mixed in with a little of the philosophical and support a point and you'll get an A. A mandatory final was scheduled, but it was cancelled. This would have required identification of many quotes, author, text, who's speaking to whom, and a deep thought about the significance of the passage. I'm extremely happy that the final was cancelled b/c I had only read maybe a third of the course material (which is easily enough to pull A's on the papers like i did). Take him if you can. beware lecture.

Cool guy, but boring lectures. I read very, very little of the required material and got an without a problem. All you have to do is read just enough to where you can write a paper, and support it. There are six two-page papers, so it's not that bad. Looking back on it, this class was perfect for me, since I only had to put in about a night or two of work for each paper. Got an A.

I took Professor Twombly's British Literature class. One had to write 6 papers during the course of the semester and there was a mandatory final exam. His lectures were all over the place and more often than not weren't relevant to the paper topics. It was pretty easy to do well on the papers (depending on the TA), but I didn't feel like the lectures were very valuable to this class.
