I recommend this class for the professor alone. It's always entertaining, and he encourages students' interpretations of the readings. However, his tests are hard, and he grades harshly, so watch out for that.

His grading system is highly flawed...something he clearly cannot comprehend. I am a straight A student and I made a B in his class. To think I laughed at all of his stupid jokes for no reason. He also is extremely lazy and makes no attempt to answer e-mails promptly. I think the reason he gives A students B's is because he is bitter about the fact that the only thing one can do with an English degree is teach English. He is a miserable, lazy, little midget man.

Professor Mallin is a great teacher, although I tend to disagree with his interpretations. He really gets the class involved in his discussions. He'll make you work hard for an A and his grading system is a litte murky, but overall I really enjoyed his class. If you want an entertaining professor that will take the time to get to know you, you should take him.

I took this class year, and I can easily say you won't be sleeping in this class. He is a highly entertaining and funny teacher. Very enthused about the class, and has some pretty interesting interpretations of the books we read. The only thing that I didn't like was the grading. He doesn't do the grading, the TA does, however, the TA's will almost grade strictly on his interpretations. Something very difficult when you have your own views about certain topics. I wound up with a B in this class, but I'm sure if I studied a bit more, I could've made an A. The load overall isn't bad. I definitely recommend him.

Professor Mallin is hilarious. I've brought people with me to that class more times than any other. It's the kind of lecture that you don't want to miss because it's always good. The tests were pretty hard but all you have to do is keep up with the reading.

Great professor who is a very entertaining lecturer. The TA's do the grading and my TA was always happy to discuss what I could have done better on each test I took. I made an A in the class but I not only read everything twice I also listened to it on audiobooks and took a ton of notes. It is a very enjoyable class.
