I learned so much in this class. Scala is interested in the progress of her students, but it is up to you to take the initiative and approach her for help if you need it. Her classes are based totally on discussion, and she will rarely (if at all)make you sit there and listen to her speak. Her passion for what she teaches is very apparent, and she knows her stuff. To do well in her class, you have to be prepared, attend regularly, revise your papers, and have study groups for her tests. It's hard work, but well worth it!

Scala is a really decent lady. She grades fairly and returns papers/quizzes promptly. Although she does not care to hear excuses (not in a bad way, she'd just rather not waste her time), she is more than willing to grant extensions and such. In regards to the workload for this class, it is high. You absolutely must keep up with the text due to the unscheduled, impromptu translation quizzes that account 10% of your grade. When she says that you will need to spend atleast 2 hours a day preparing a tale, you would greatly benefit from doing so. Learning Middle English takes time and common sense. The language in itself is demanding of time since everything is completely foreign and the word arrangement is different from anything you will probably seen before. All in all, great class and a great lady. If you're willing to come to class and a regular basis, don't be afraid of this class at all. She will help you through everything. :)
