Walker is not a good prof. He's boring and boring!!!! I actually didn't learn anything from the class. It's all memorization, but still his exams are right down to the very detail! That's absurd. I don't recommend him

While Walker's lectures aren't the most interesting or entertaining, he does do a good job of presenting the information. You use a study guide that you print from his site; it's about 180 pages long, but it has illustrations in it that help you understand the topic. You'll hardly use the textbook at all. His exams aren't that hard. The multiple choice can be tricky, but the free response part is really easy. The first exam is the hardest, so don't let that one get you down. Lastly, I'd like to mention that if you go to his office hours, even just once, then he'll be extra nice to you. A very good professor with a sweet demeanor, I'd recommend him.

The lectures were pretty sleep-inducing (granted, they were at 8 a.m.) but the good thing was that the study guide was posted online. The tests are pretty much based on these notes + whatever additional information he mentions in class. You also have exams from the past to practice on. Not too challenging of a course, and seems like a nice prof.
Review from a student who took BIO 226R
Walker is an easy going guy who seems passionate about microbiology. You can tell he enjoys the subject, which to me is an important characteristic. He is quiet-natured and mild mannered, so his lectures are a little dry. Overall, he presents all the information you need to know, and if you study his notes you should do fine.

Walker is boring and dull. Although he enjoys teaching the material, the class itself is kind of hard. The tests can get tricky and there's a lot of material to know right down to the details.
