I thought 408D with Vishik was extremely easy, however 427K was really hard. His teaching is completely useless, I stopped going to class after a couple weeks. His grading is out of 210 points, 10 for homework, 100 for the best of two midterms, and 100 for the final. Tests are 4-5 medium-hard questions. I strongly recommend taking someone else unless you are very gifted at teaching yourself math.

Not a great lecturer. You can do most of the homework from the examples in the book. These examples show up on the test. Go to the TA sessions. Tests are fairly easy, and he grades fairly. Final was the same length as the test, which was quite nice.

Nice man, kind of quiet. Boring lectures. 4~5 question exams and finals. TA session very valuable. Do the homework.

Vishik is a genious who is incapable of relaying any of that knowledge to his students. He spends the entire class period writing proofs on the board. His accent, and the fact that he mumbles most of the time, makes understanding him very difficult. Also, don't plan on asking him any questions about what he's doing because he will most likely trail off while answering you or just dodge your question and talk about something completely different. Fortunately, his tests aren't very difficult as long as you do the homeworks, which can be done, most of the time, from examples in the book. Basically, take Vishik if you feel like teaching youself from the book. TA sessions are usually helpful, and that's when you turn in your homework. So, good luck. I got a B. woo.

I had professor Vishik for PDE, and it was absolutely wonderful. True math majors will appreciate him and his lectures very much. His accent should never be an excuse for students who fail to succeed in his course. I am not American, but I can understand his English perfectly. I think he is a very nice person who has fair expectation on students. Also, it is our own responsibility to have the corresponding math maturity for the course we sign up to. Put some effort into the subject, you will find his lectures more valuable than you think.
