I had a fantastic time taking calculus with Professor Koch. It took a couple of lectures to get used to accent, but once you concentrated on the material rather than small things such as his accent, then it became fun. He would throw out a joke or two if he felt like we were getting bored. The workload was average with a homework a week and curved midterms.

Certainly not the best professor in the math department, but not the worst either. Koch spends most of the lectures stating and proving theorems, most of which are never asked for again. It is obvious that he loves math; he can talk about it endlessly without giving you practical information. The homework questions are difficult, but Koch will give you hints if you ask for them. There are very generous curves on the tests. For instance, on the second test all you needed was one question right out of five to get a C. All in all, he's a nice guy, and it's not the end of the world if you have to take him, but getting an A takes a large time commitment. Getting a B shouldn't be too hard with the massive curving.

Dr. Koch is an OK person. He has a very heavy accent that makes him difficult to understand. This can be a problem when hes trying to decribe a taylor series expansion and you think hes describing breakfast. The tests are quite hard, the averages tend to be in the 50s but he gives really large curves to make up for this. How big you may ask: one time a made a 37 and it ended up as a C.

i have to agree with the other reviewer. the accent is a problem with koch. it took me sometime to understand what he was saying. hes a nice person, and helps out a lot. overall hes an OK teacher. but if i had the choice i would go for someone else who may be better. keep in mind hes much better than most, and he gives the most awesome curves.

Does any professor in the Math department NOT have some weird accent? I have no problem with foreign people, but when I have to spend just as much effort trying to understand their english AND the material in a hard class, it makes school just that more difficult. My advice, try to take someone else.
