Gerth is a good professor, and gives informative lectures. Alas, most of the time, around three of twenty homework problems actually resemble the types of problems worked in class. I've come to understand that he expects his class to be a refresher course for high school AP calc students, so if you're new (like me), do not, under any circumstances take this course.

Dr. Gerth's class is pretty challenging. I found the only way to do well was to follow the class in the book. Before you go to class do sample problems from the relevant sections. The homework he assigned (every week) was tough at times, but the exams do not reflect this material. He is not a terrible professor, but try to get another if possible. Lastly, he is not approachable at all. He is very arrogant, and sarcastic at times. Good luck!!!

He gives good informative lectures and fair tests, but gives somewhat more difficult homework problems. The worst thing about him is his attitude. He could really care less about the class and his tone when answering questions makes people feel dumb. Not very approachable at all. If you have him, dont miss class and dont miss the homework.

I came into 408D hoping for a review of calculus and betting on an easy A. This however was not the case. I don't know my grade yet, but I am borderline A/B. Dr. Gerth is very intelligent and thorough in class, but is not friendly at all. I was one of the few who would ever speak up and answer his questions, and whenever I did, he seemed to just try to make me feel stupid. He is very unapproachable and almost condescending. If you are someone who likes to interact with your professors, DON'T take his class. Also, it's a lot of homework, and many of the problems towards the end of the course are quite hard. He is also a very picky grader. He is not a professor I would recommend.

He's a good professor, but he expects you to know basic calculus. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you weren't successful in high school calculus. He explains things really well, but can get sarcastic if you ask some questions.

Avoid at all costs!!! UNFAIR exams. But good lectures. Too much homework. Not approachable. Hope that helps!
