Professor profile for George Sudarshan
Student reviews of George Sudarshan
Review from a student who took PHY 302K
Sudarshan is a pretty good professor. He really knows his material but his lectures aren't structured very well. When he lectures he writes all over the chalkboard so it can be hard to follow or understand. There are two quizzes and a final, all of which are generally easy and open book as well as a few homework problems due each week. Since his lectures weren't very organized I relied upon reading everything from the book and made an A in the class.

Sudarshan is a really nice professor, but I never understood anything he said. Everything I learned from the class was from the book. His lectures are hard to follow and unorganized. There's a set of homework problems due every week and going to office hours helps.

Seriously the worst professor I have ever had. Please do not be fooled by any positive reviews you have read. I took him because I wanted my physics class to be as easy as possible (I'm a bio major) and I saw some good reviews that said attendance wasn't necessary, easy A, and open book tests. None of these are true. You are allowed a cheat sheet on the tests but it doesn't help at all. I have only made one C in college (now I'm a senior) and I am currently making a D in this class. He DOES NOT USE THE BLACKBOARD. He does no examples whatsoever so expect to pull everything out of your butt. If you are a visual learner like me you will not learn. Also, he is really old. His wiki page says he is 83 which is why he has to hold onto the lecturing stand during the whole class. He can't walk really anymore, he shuffles, and his wife comes to class every day to help him put on his microphone/wipe of the board. One of my classmates asked if he would possibly do some explanations on the board and he replied with "I assume you speak english, so you should be able to understand the homework. You need me to show you how to multiply and divide?" My physics tutor said that all of the grad students dislike him and hate that he doesn't teach us anything which just makes a lot of people dislike physics. Some of my homework problems he and his grad student friends can't even do!!!! They are actually compiling a list of these problems and reporting them to the department head. Please if you can DO NOT TAKE PHYSICS AT UT. Go home and take it at your local CC. My brother was here years ago for astrophysics and the department is the reason why he switched majors. Seriously please take this to heart he is an awful person and awful, awful professor.
