Good teacher, but don't take it at 8am! Get to know you TA, he/she grades everything. Discussion section is 20% which consists of quizzes and writing. You first test is 20%, the second is 25%, and the cumulative final is 35%. Go to every class and make sure that you write at least 4 points that he says about each passage in the book the you read that day. Do all of your readings- which is on average 40 pages a class. The first part of the test has 9 quotes, 8 of which you give the title and author. That isn't too bad if you did the readings. The second part is 5 essays, 4 of which you answer by giving the title, author, and atleast 4 points that he mentioned in class. It isn't too bad, your TA will help you. I made a 99 on the first and a 98 on the second.

This course was American Realism. In all honesty, he's a tough professor. Very intense with both the reading and the writing. I feel like I learned a lot though, and really benefitted from the class. Barrish is really nice though, and easy to talk with, especially in office hours. I've had to work really hard all semester in this class, so don't take it with something else difficult and overload yourself.
