Wow this class was tough, I hate organic chemistry right now, I'm not sure if it's because of him or not. Granted, I should have studied more, I ended up with a C, but he assigned so much homework that I felt it wasn't relevant and copied a lot of it from the solutions book. Copying alone takes at least an hour. The grade history speaks for itself here. He talks kind of like a country guy but he seemed friendly and approachable. I skipped too many lectures also, 9 AM orgo simply isn't appealing, and the material is so boring I fell asleep in lecture anyway. I wonder if I would have had a better time with another prof, perhaps Iverson. As it stands, organic chemistry I was truly a nightmare, and I'm dreading taking II next semester. Tests are really hard, you have to memorize so much and suggest all sorts of mechanisms and whatnot. 3 tests and a final, one test is dropped so that's nice. I did badly on all 3 though so it didn't matter.

Dr. Anslyn is the most amazing and caring professor you will meet. Its true that Organic Chemistry is tough but he teaches it in a very easy to understand manner and strives to make sure you do well. This guy will do anything in his power to help you to get a high grade--he'll change his office hours, have review sessions, help you with HW and even stay late to hammer down the concepts. I really can't stress how great this guy is he really seems to care about his students and it shows during his lecture. He assigns HW every few weeks which are basically graded on a "did you turn in something or not" basis. 3 exam with a final, one exam can be dropped. His exams are fair, mostly comprising of HW problems and lecture material along with a few kicks just to make sure know what you are doing. Overall-- GREAT professor.

What a great professor! Ochem is a hard subject, but Dr. Anslyn's lectures are very clear, and I never felt lost in class. He is very nice to students, and truly wants everyone to make an A. If you go see him at office hours, he's very nice too, and will go over anything you want. However, a great a professor as he is, know that you will have to put in plenty of time and effort yourself to get an A. Homework is assigned regularly, but is pretty much a completion grade. Tests are very hard, but is a pretty nice curve, so if you study, you should do fine. Overall, great professor! I highly recommend him.
