Review from a student who took GOV 365N
This is a great professor! He is a little intimidating at first, because he expects a lot out of you. Also, his tests can be kind of specific, generally people did horrible on the first one and then their grades went up from there. He only grades by social security number, so there is never a question of fairness. A word to the wise though: there is extensive reading in the class and to do well, you must do all of it! He is so funny and lively, he makes boring topics interesting. I would definitely recommend the class.

Weyland is a really funny guy and I think he really enjoys getting up in front of 100 people everyday. He lectures well, too. As for his class . . . the readings are TERRIBLE. Be prepared for authors not competent in the English language. It's sort of a depressing trend in academic writing to make the argument so opaque and unreadable that no one can understand it well enough to rebut it. However, the readings in the class are especially dense and there is no excuse for it. Much better writers could have been chosen. Weyland grades extremely tough. So just be prepared for all of that. It's tough to make an A, if that is what you are interested in. If it isn't, then have at it.
Review from a student who took GOV312L
Professor Weyland is a wonderful professor. I was dreading taking GOV312L, especially in a huge class, but Weyland made it really interesting. He is a very intelligent and funny guy. The class is fairly demanding, but it's definitely possible to do well. Forming study groups to discuss readings definitely helps...I did that and went to class, and I made an A.

Professor Waylend is great! If you want an A in his class, you need to do two hours of reading for every hour of class. There are two tests, two quizes and one paper. The quizes focus on the readings, the tests are made up of one quiz and one essay. The essay is much broader scope then the quiz questions. The readings are interesting for the most part, some of it though, is relatively boring, especially the economics readings. I would definatly reccommend taking his class.
