Review from a student who took BIO 212
Pretty good one... Her tests aren't too hard and if you make the discussion sessions then studying should be no problem... The course difficulty is not hard at all and the midterms are pretty straightforward... She's very organized and does her job well... Beware of the final though...
Review from a student who took BIO 212
Dr. Paull is a fantastic professor. Although she has taught BIO 212 for only the last two Spring semesters and her primary focus is research, her lectures are well-prepared and the order of the course material is well-organized and has been thought out well. Because she is a researcher and relatively young, she is well-versed on current techniques and issues while being very personable at the same time. However, her exams can be difficult and the exam focus tended to be much more of an application of what you have learned/a thinking exercise than a regurgitation of memorized material. But, she was amenable to taking into account the grade distributions by "curving" as she felt appropriate. The ability to add points to your total points accumulated from exams by attending discussion sections also helped. The volume of reading was relatively light to moderate, but you do have to do it and especially know the material she focuses in on her lecture slides (which she hands out and which are also downloadable online).
Review from a student who took BIO 325
As a genetics professor, she was probably one of the worst in Fall 2005. This was her first time teaching the course, and it was extremely evident that her primary focus here is research. Her lectures were long and tedious, and she basically read off her powerpoint slides. Everything she said was extremely techical and difficult to understand. The discussion sections were a joke. If you read your book and downloaded the lecture notes, but didn't go to class, you were completely fine. Many people stopped going halfway through the semester because they realized going to class didn't help.
Review from a student who took BIO212
Her class was really random. Her lectures and homework went together sometimes but sometimes the questions were really random. Her test was really hard. I would say if you are not a biology major don't take her. I must admit some of the things that she taught was interesting but it was not worth it in the end. Her grading policy is really good tho. A 65 is a C. Overall I wouldn't take her.
