To put it simple, Dr. Mear is a hick with a Ph.D, but he is the smartest hick you will ever find. This man is crazy but he knows his stuff. He gives many examples and explains stuff very well but he will work you to the bone. He gives hard tests, and freely admits that he doesn't mind trying to trick you on them from time to time.

Wow, a professor that actually seems to enjoy teaching. He is a bit wierd, but that doesn't have any negative effects on his class. I found his tests to be easy. If you can do the homework, then you'll have no problems with the test. I took his class in the summer, the term where the entire corse is compressed into 5 weeks. For this set up the work load was preaty heavy, at about 2-3 hours of homework every night. If I had to guess that would probably equal about 4-6 hours of homework per week during a regular semister. His lectures were mostly made up of working examples, which he works very clearly and methodically. He also sets things up for the next class very well, in that he give simple examples of how certain things will apply later, I thought this was a nice touch. I would definatly recomend taking his class.

Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. I go to class and pay attention, do the homework, and come test time, find myself not needing to study very much at all. Tests are very fair - in fact he will, at some point in his lectures or in the test reviews, work or mention the problems that will wind up on the tests - so pay close attention. Class is an enjoyable experience - he's a goofy guy and jokes around a lot. Take this guy if you have the opportunity - you will not regret it, I promise.

Simply put, Dr. Mear is the best damn engineering prof you will ever have. He is brilliant, a wonderful teacher, cares about his students, fun and above all an awesome guy. Take him whever you can and as long as you pay attention, you can't help but learn and get an A.
