Review from a student who took ASE 201
I understand that she must know the material she is teaching very well but she does not convey that at all in her teaching. The only reason I'm doing decent in the class is because I go to TA sessions and actively seek help. We get assignments on Monday that are due Friday and we don't find out how they should actually be done until Friday 2 hours before they are due. If you want a class where you actually learn the material from the teacher then do not take this class with Linda Hayes. Also, this is a computer class, but it is not taught in a computer lab, we learn from a blackboard and have to go back to our own computers to learn the material. Avoid this class if you possibly can.

Overall I didn't find this class that useful. Its just one of those that you go through because its part of the degree program. I don't know that there is much point in reviewing her, because there is only 1 section of this class each semester, so if its your time to take it and she's teaching, you don't have much choice. So I'll say this: She's not the best professor in the world, and perhaps isn't the easiest grader, but she's decent overall... By no means should you try to stall and take the class a semester later because she is teaching this semester. Overall it wasn't too bad. I squeaked out an A.

The 2nd dose of matlab for ASE majors. this course involves less programming and more math derived programs to analyze data. One program due a week, of which counts 40% of your grade. She says she'll drop only one, but she gave 3 drops. 2 Tests, shes a dick when it comes to grading but she lets you do corrections on both for up to 10% of your grade back. Worth 60% if you dont take the final I didnt take the final, but if you do its worth 20% and the tests are worth 40%. I rarely went to class, studied about an hour before each test, didnt take the final and got a 80.2 for a B.

I'm not always sure she knows what she's doing, but her lectures are very detailed and easy to keep up with. There are no tests so as long as you can figure out the programs from the book and the lectures you are set. There are quizes but they usualy consist of one problem, and are very easy.

Shes retarded. Somehow shes a doctor of engineering. Heres the thing, she teaches MATLAB (a high level language based off Java, if you know any java the class is easy, I took 2 years in high school) on a chalkboard. Her computer is 50 years old and it doesnt work so all your 'notes' which come from the book are written in chalk. Her lectures are pointless unless you dont know anything about matlab or programming, and her grading system is really messed up. 50% on quizzes (one given every friday), 30% on programs (one a week), and 20% on 3 final programs. she assigns programs due friday and tells you how to do parts of them on that friday. course, only ase majors are looking at this, and thus, you have no choice but to take her

she doesn't know how to teach and she doesn't know Matlab either but she knows how to dump the assignments on you. Her assignments are way too hard especially if you dun have a previous programming experience. It will take you forever and still dun get it right. Dun even ask her for help cux she can't even do it herslf but she expects u to know how to do it. It's sad that UT is such a big campus but can't even find an experienced teacher to teach that class. Avoid her if u can!

This lady tries to make Statics the hardest class as she can. She is good at confusing and failing her students. Her weekly quiz is hard and ambiguous and her test is even worse. She grades harshly and sometime you get the correct answers but she still takes off points because you dun follow what she wants and you are really not sure what she wants you to do.She tries so hard to find the mistakes so she can take off points. One time after the test, she laughed so hard because almost the whole class missed problem number 2 which was the problem that she picked to trick us and it cost 33 points for that one problem. WTH is that???? I guess her life sucks so much that's why she tries to ruin everybody's life so that she can feel better about herself. Think about it !
