This is a fun, easy class. Just read the text book and use a little common sense, and you'll be fine.

Carroll is an enthusiastic professor who keeps his lectures lively but his tests are very difficult. He does not give any sort of review and he does not curve. How well you do in psy 418 really depends on how well you understand statistics beforehand.

Carroll is a great professor. He's very interesting and has incredibly interesting lectures. As stated above, he does have three tests (all of which are 50 mulitple choice) and then one final (100 mulitple choice). Pay attention to all examples and write down notes from the daily videos, you WILL be tested on them! Anything in the book or in lecture is fair game, even captions on pictures. Professor Carroll is an excellent teacher and I recommend him to anyone who is interested in Psychology or plans on being a Psych. major. Be forewarned, his tests are VERY hard and very detail-oriented and he doesn't curve.

For (in my opinion) a terribly boring subject, Dr. Carroll does an excellent job. I hated the course itself simply because I don't like stats. However, he was readily available outside of class and really took an interest in his students. He knew all of our names and really seemed to care if we were doing well. I thought I did really bad on one of the tests and ended up pulling a B on it so something must have sunk in through his lectures. The tests were difficult and much of the statistics you must teach yourself with the book and by doing the homework. However, if you make an effort you should do fine- I made an A in the class but was on the edge of a B and A. As far as grades go it worked this way: test 1= 10% test 2= 15% final= 20% homework= 15% lab reports= 15% final paper= 20% misc. (quizzes, participation)= 5% The tests and final were multiple choice, short essay, definitions that reflect reading assignments, and statistical calculations. Homework was done online (DO the homework- he gives partial credit for just trying and it is a big chunk of your grade!). The final paper will consume your life at times. It is a complete full- blown APA paper. You conduct your own study with class mates and then write the Literature Review and paper alone. Do not put writing the paper off. It took me about 20 hours just to write the damn thing and format it right. Basically- Dr. Carroll was great, but it is a difficult class. Go to class, really try (and make sure he knows you are trying- aka- go see him at least once in office hours), take notes, and do the homework.

Dr. Carroll rocks! He is so energetic and spunky. He won't embarrass you in class, and he wants everyone to learn. He keeps you laughing throughout the semester. The statistics are not that tough- but the tests are a little tough. The work load isn't bad at all. Go to class and read the book- but it all really helps on the tests. And watch out- there are occasional pop quizzes- but some aare so easy that it is obvious they are to look at attendance. Take this class with Dr. Carroll! You won't regret it! :)
