Student reviews of Kenneth Young
Review from a student who took GRG 301C
This class is very easy, and Dr. Young does his best to try to make the material interesting. His jokes are corny, and the required "labs" are an insult to intelligent life on this planet. You will not do well on his tests if you do not read the book, including every chapter. Just be sure to take note of the key terms in bold; it's like a high school book. You will have to rely upon memorization, because many of the issues are not interrelated. His lectures are decently amusing, mainly because of the pictures, and he doesn't follow the book verbatim. He can talk for hours on dirt alone, which makes the occasional lecture somewhat boring, but other than that, it's a good class. I would recommend it, despite the pathetic labs.

i wouldnt say this class is an easy A. there are 3 exams (25% each) and labs (11 labs, the lowest one gets dropped and they are worth 25%). it's important to do well on the labs because they are super easy and worth a test grade. you should definitely take good notes if you can stand his lectures of continuous slides. i would recommend reading the book and making vocab lists to study with. there is an optional final to replace the lowest test grade. right now, i have an 89.5 without taking the optional final..and NO, he doesn't curve because the final is optional!!! i am still indecisive on taking the final because it is cumulative (18 chapters!). so definitely study for the tests, go to the reviews, do well on the labs and you shouldn't be in the position i am. not necessarily an easy A. his tests can be a little tricky, but if you read the book and know the material well, you should be able to do well. i think most people make B's. dr young is a nice man, but the class is just boring.
