I took Prof Adams' Intro to Urban Studies class. The content of this class was very interesting. Prof Adams is a very easy going guy but is serious about academic discipline. He gives the random extra credit quizzes and grades class participation (which he loves), but if you don't like speaking up he gives the option of writing reports to make up for it. The rest of the grade comes from projects which will require you to go out and about in Austin, so it's good to make some friends in the class. The projects are very interesting and there is no final, just a big project. The lecture powerpoints can be very boring though, and he posts them all online, so I've skipped quite a number of times. I suggest not buying the book - I didn't use mine and it cost me so much!! He gave only one "quiz" on the book and it only required a 2 word answer!! Lastly, he told us he actually asked for our class to be an 8am one to "weed out slackers".. so you kinda know he's serious about this class..

A great professor with interesting lectures which were all posted on the internet. A few projects and fairly easy multiple choice/short answer tests. A good deal of your grade comes from class participation so if you take this prof be sure to add comments from time to time

Dr. Adams' lectures, while fairly techical, are interesting and thought-provoking. He always makes the reading selection relate to something students are interested in, and lectures thrive on interaction with students. Make sure you're active in the discussion, as that is a good portion of your grade. All assignments are turned in over the internet as web sites. Your first assignment is to build a home page from which all other projects are linked. You then have to build four web sites, and part of your final project grade is cleaning up earlier assignments, since you will get better at web design as the year progresses. It's not difficult to make an A if you participate, read and put a little extra in. Adams is interesting and well-informed, and the class covers a very broad range of subjects that will relate to most any liberal arts major.

A very political prof. who leaves little room for varying opinions...Otherwise, easy class where you actually learn real computer skills.

This guy is awesome! His lectures are so interesting that you'd WANT to attend his classes. Although he doesn't curve, it isn't hard to get points if you pay attention in class. He doesn't give any HW so paying attention in class is pretty much all you have to do.

Dr. Adams is an okay professor. It's extremely hard to force myself out of bed for an early 8:00 class with him knowing that he puts his powerpoints that he uses in lecture on e-reserves. However, the projects (there are 4) usually aren't difficult to handle. He just sends you all over Austin researching different things. It's usually not just a boring topic, but something that will open your eyes as well. I can't really comment on the test yet because GRG 309 only has one this semester--and it's still 2 weeks away.
Review from a student who took 305, 309, 356T
This professor is awesome! I loved his class enough to take him 3 times, and he is probably the reason I decided to become and urban geography major. He is a very down to earth guy a fair grader, and very interested in the progress of his students! He is definitely one of the best professors that I have had at this university.
Review from a student who took GRG 305
This class is fairly easy if you do the reading and pay attention to the lectures. Make sure and get your participation points though, they can really hurt you in the end if you don't have enough. Some of the lectures were rather boring, and the professor brings in a lot of his opinions and research to share with the students. It didn't seem like there was much room for students voicing their opinions unless he asked or was just looking for an answer to his question. Go to the TA sessions too because the participation points come from there as well. Overall easy, but not enthralling.
