this is the worst class i've ever taken. it's hard to understand doughty's lectures and the grading is TOUGH. i advise you don't take this class unless you have to.

I enjoyed this class because the course load was light, the lectures were interesting, and the topics really make you think about things you normally wouldn't think about. The only problem is that you have to be really good at writing essays to get an A, and the tests make up most of your grade since there aren't any homework assignments. Make sure you read everything assigned. He gives the test questions out a week before the test, so you have time to re-read specifically what you need to know and practice writing essays.

Dr. Doughty brings up many very interesting points which help promote an interest towards environmental conservation. I admittedly was not interested in the environment before this course but now I want to help save it. Overall, the course is very interesting. The downfall is the format of the tests: 5 essays (3 short & 2 long). It is difficult to get an A even if you write five truly great essays. Only the very best earn an A!! There is a fair amount of reading which must be done in order to pass.
