Prof. Shakkottai is quite possibly one of the smartest professors I've ever had. Even though he has a heavy accent, I think most people got a good understanding of the material from him. He's very nice, and greatly encourages questions in class. However, unlike many professors, he really answers questions well. He understands what someone is asking and how to answer it. Homeworks were difficult and came from the supplement to the textbook. Grading for homework was unique; your grade on the homework was between 0 and 10, but you can only the grades of 0 (if you didn't do it), 3 (if you did it mostly wrong), 7(if you got half to most of it right), and 10 (most to all of it correct). So, homework grades were generally high. The midterms weren't bad; you get a cheat sheet (front and back) for each exam. On the other hand, the final was hard as hell. Besides the difficulty of the final, the other thing that bothered me was that he makes the grades such that only 25% of people get an A. Overall, I liked this class.
