Review from a student who took BME 314
The weekly (bi-weekly? I forgot) homework problem sets were difficult, but if you do well they help your grade. I think there was one midterm and a final, so you would be wise not to blow them off. It was her first time teaching the course, she'll likely change. She gave I think 7 As out of 10 people, that is also likely to change. The tests were easier than the homeworks, and pretty much everything on them was covered in lecture, so no curve balls. She gave handouts at lecture with blanks here and there, and we filled them in in lectures. That means you won't have to do much in terms of note taking, it's mostly done for you. The book was complex--don't be daunted, she took the easier material from it.

This course was not so bad. There was a midterm and a final as well as a pain in the butt 10page group technical paper with a presentation. For the tests she gives you the option of submitting extra credit problems (up to 5) that she will more than likely put on the test. USE THIS OPTION. She's a VERY busy person and as I learned from the final where we all shared the submitted questions...she puts all the ec problems you submit to her. Not that the tests would be hard without these, but it certainly makes life easier. So coordinate with your friends, share those ec problems, box your solutions, write down your equation (she has a certain criteria for grading and takes off strenuously if you stray...note this is b/c grading the content of the question takes longer than looking for a box around a solution). With this in mind the class should be a breeze.

Review from a student who took BME 379
Dr. Schmidt ahs definitely gotten harder since I took 314 from her, but the grades are curved accordingly. 379 was a pretty good class, though repetitive at times. A lot of interactive work, so don't skip.
