Great class if you like Texas history. The tests aren't hard at all because you get to use your notes and bring whatever u want to the exam. Basically it breaks down to getting 10 possible questions for the exam a week before the actual exam, and then 2 - 3 of those being on the test. There is also a project you have to do that requires some research at one of the libraries. Overall it was a great course and Montejano is great professor.

I was never very excited by this class, although I do feel that Montejano was a good lecturer and he got across his topics very clearly. I took this class in Spring 2002, and got an A (like most of the class). I found taking notes to be a waste of time, as the test's essay topics can be written from just researching the assigned readings. He would hand out a list of 10 possible essays the week before the test, and choose 3 and a bonus one. I ended up typing out all 10 possibilities, because I am not much of a on the spot essay writer -- this took like 7 or 8 hours to do for each test. (There was a midterm and final, plus one paper.) Everything was graded easily, as evidenced by the fac that I wrote the worst paper of my life and got an 83 on it.
