Absolutely fantastic, made me want to attend class every section. Very passionate about what he's teaching, interesting discussion, and barely any work. Most of your thinking will be done in class, you only have two essays due the entire year, and 2-3 exams plus a final. TA sessions are somewhat required but completely useless because NOBODY can say it better than Kane. Tests were essay form of course, though i found that knowing all the material and writing it all down would still give me a B+, and for some reason that's where I stayed all year. Anyway, if you want one of those interesting college classes you always see in movies that motivate our 'young, ambitious America' then this is definitely it - about as entertaining as it gets for philosophy.

Very very passionate about what he's teaching. He really gets into the lecture, which can be entertaining at times. Go to the discussions. For one, they are a lot of help because you can debate your ideas, and also because you have to attend 60% to get credit for the class. You write 3 response papers on readings you'll do, which are not hard. There are 2 exams and a cumulative final. Kane curves the exam grades, but does not curve final grades. This class really stimulates the mind and gets you thinking. Not too bad.

After taken classes in many different departments, Dr. Kane is my favorite professor that I've taken at UT. He reminds me of what I think a wise old man should be like but with a lot more spunk. At the end of my yearlong class with him, my classmates and I gave him a standing ovation that must have lasted 5 minutes or so.
