Student reviews of Anne Kane
Review from a student who took SOC 379M
Dr. Kane is genuinely interested in teaching the course, though at time she can get pretty exasperated. Her lectures, though, are very dry (and I like the subject!) and hard to focus on. If you take this class, don't ever be afraid to stop her and ask her to repeat herself, because she tends to rush through the lecture and you're likely to miss some things you need to know if you don't. Do the reading. Or, if you don't, don't let her find out. She can get testy with that sort of thing. You'll need to do it to do very well on the tests though, so you might as well do so before class. Her grading is fair and the tests are easy if you know the material, with highly weighted, simplistic bonus questions like "Which of these authors were your favorite?" and that sort of subjective stuff. Also, she gets sick all the time and doesn't email the class to cancel until the morning of, so several times I had to wake up at 8 am only to find out that class had been cancelled. And at least once she didn't send out an email until after class. Surely there's someone more interesting who teaches this class. If I were you, I'd look for that someone.
