Review from a student who took Soc 321K
Professor Charrad is quite a character. I was irritated that all of the books required for this course were only available new, and one of them was her overpriced production. She is without doubt interested in the topic she is teaching, because it is really the same subject as her book: women's rights and how the development of Middle Eastern states affects them. The lectures are disjointed and rarely seem to have a common topic. It is nearly impossible to predict what might be on the test, even though we are asked to submit questions ahead of time. A great deal of information comes from the reading, but she nearly refused to give any guidance about what to study. It can be frustrating, let me tell you.

DO NOT TAKE HER! awful lecturer, grades inconsistently and unfairly, on a powertrip every class--not very receptive to student comments/questions and sometimes outright rude, changed the syllabus midway through the semester but didn't tell anyone until the last week of class, its a mystery as to what you have to do to get a good class participation score b/c class attendance, speaking up in class, and extra credit projects aren't enough. my friend and i went above and beyond in her political soc class and we barely got Bs. take her course at your own risk!!!

Charrad's exams are easy but the lectures are very unorganized. She seems to be really lazy and uninterested in her job. Better to take a class with a professor who enjoys teaching, if possible.
