Review from a student who took ASE 320
At first I seemed a little intimidated by Dr. Goldstein because of the nature of this course. Over time my opinion of him improved...but by the end of the semester...I downright hated the man. First off, he graded the midterm very leniently and I did fairly well, he was very generous with the partial credit. When came the final...which is 45%(!) of your final average...he graded VERY hard and gave little to no partial credit at all. I went to his office to talk about my final grade because I felt I should have gotten a higher letter grade...but he came off as downright insulting and very uninterested in helping me out. He may seem like a nice guy when you deal with him throughout the semester, he's friendly and helpful when you go to office hours, he may even know your name...but in the end, he will screw you.

Dr. Goldstein could be very good and effective in his teaching but he is much more interested in making cute comments on your reports and such. When I approached him in office hours he was very unhelpful. I am not writing this because of a poor grade I got an A in the course. He is very helpful when you work on your project and others found him helpful with their two formal lab reports, so it just might be me. The class overall is too hurried to really learn anything about the equipment or how to operate it independent of the lab TA's, you really just get a taste of testing.
