Professor profile for Edward Odell
Student reviews of Edward Odell
Review from a student who took M 328K
Professor Odell teaches number theory with the Moore method, i.e. no textbooks and proofs figured out by yourself or with classmates. If you are the kind of person who is self-motivated and can bring material to classroom discussions, then this is the right teacher for you. His grading is pretty fair and you can do well as long as you understand what's happening in class.

Review from a student who took M 408k
Dr. Odell is probably the best M 408K professor on campus. The course load isn't too bad, a HW consisting of 20 questions is due every Friday night. His lectures are fun (yea really) and very easy to follow. The class moves at a slower pace than M 408C and so is a lot easier. There are 3 tests worth 45% of the grade, HWs (drop lowest 2) and quizes (occasional...hardly ever) are 20% and final is 35%. If you do all the HWs, expect to do really well on the tests. Also, if you had calculus in high school, you can probably get by with missing a few classes. I had an amazing TA so that helped a lot, but in any case, our class has had the highest test average yet. Odell doesn't teach this class often, so if you get a chance to take it with him, consider yourself very very lucky. There have been pretty bad stories circulating about the other profs like Radin etc. Odell rocks!

Odell is an excellent M 408K professor. Our class consistantly had the highest averages on tests. In my class HW was 10%, quizzes 5%, three tests at 20% each and then a final for 25%. The quizzes were super easy, basic concepts. He ended up dropping 4 quiz grades (leaving us with 7 or 8 for our quiz grade). The class average on quizzes was like a 95%. If you need to take Calculus M 408K definitely take Odell.
