Want a waste of a class, take this one. Not only is attendance mandatory, you're only allowed to have 3 before she starts hacking away at your grade. She creates a website with everything you need for the class, yet she can't seem to figure out how to use it. Half of the class is spent with her fumbling with the computer, confused with OK buttons and Cancel buttons. Her lectures are anything but structured. Often having trouble completing a thought without going onto something else which her previous thought reminder her of. If attendance wasn't mandatory I would be surprised if 1/4 of the class showed up. You can get everything you need from the textbook. And as far as reading goes...get ready for a lot of it. One textbook (which you need to read) and then 3 other novels which aren't particular any good. Oh and don't let the grade distribution fool you like it did me. Over half the class is Chinese so its a review from them. Often times students would correct the prof or give a more insightful commentary on the subject at hand. The quiz, which account for 40% of the total grade, are generally pretty easy if you've read the textbook. The tests a straight forward but she has a tendency to really look for specific themes or events and if your answer lacks them then your grade will suffer. Over all one of the worst classes I've taken at UT to date, and this was my last semester.

Professor Zanasi is really something. She is the funniest professor I have ever had at UT. Her lectures are always be open for discussion by her classes, since she always asks for student's perspectives. I also feel that she is a very nice professor that understands the concerns and needs of her students. Best of all, her grading in her classes is very fair, and you should get what you deserve for your work.

I took Introduction to Chinese History with Dr. Zanasi and I thought she was great. A lot of people complained about this class but I really don't see what the deal was. I am a pretty bad, lazy student, but I still made an A in this course. It's actually insanely easy, she gives reviews before each quiz and midterms and actually posts study guides. Reading the books are a must in this class. She is a really nice person and very approachable. People mostly whined about attendance. Oops, sorry, you're in college, go to class.
