Review from a student who took M 408M
He give partial credit on tests, but you get massive points taken off for small mistakes. like 75% of the points could be lossed on a problem just because you subtracted incorrectly. This makes his test give you either a 100, or a B or a C. A midrange A is not likly on the test scores. So do the hw flawlessly, its 15%, only 2 tests (25% each), and a final (35%). he wont curve but 85 and up is an A. He drops the 3 lowest HW grades. He has a slight russian accent but it doesn't interfere with teaching except for when he pronounces a greek letter strangely, but you will see it on the board. TA sessions are not mandatory, but you turn your hw in once a week, so you will have to show up for that. The TA this year was really good, she would reteach everything in a way that a HS teacher would. However if you have the slightest clue of what is going on in class, the TA sessions will be boring. Except for the test reviews, she will hit all the key points. His tests are fair, but graded too harshly for the wrong reasons I think. I will make an A or B.

Very good prof. He did a very good job teaching this course. I missed 2 classes and was ok, but I wouldn't recommend missing many due to the material. He seemed to have a pattern of explaing a concept, and a few "trickier" examples of that concept. Then there would be some twists/further advanced problems in the HW - which you should look out for on the tests. He didn't seem to be very available outside of class, but most probably went to the TA anyway. Handwritten HW weekly, lowest 2 dropped. 2 midterms & Final.

makes lecture more interesting, at least. other profs are pretty hard to understand from what i hear. he's pretty cool, even if some of what he says as difficult to heard with the accent [if you missed it, it probably was a joke- either to him, to the student, or to math]. Tests are 4 or 5 probs and about a page of work for each prob. he surprised the class at the final by saying that some 'good' students did not have to take this final.

Great professor, and very generous with the partial credit. The very first professor I encountered at UT, and so far my favorite of all the ones I had. One person in there felt that she was going to have a hard time, and I believe she made an A in the course. He organizes the course very well. I strongly recommend him.

Tevelev explains the concepts and makes them almost seem easy. His test were straight forward and from the book. Do the homework and you will be fine. Great lecturer even with his accent. Funny guy. I would recommend him over any of the other profs.

Great guy. Very amiable. Teaches very well and explains everything fully. Tests were really simple considering some of the harder concepts. Take him if u can.

Great professor. Does an excellent job explaining the material in class, and the homeworks generally are from examples in class with a few tricky ones as well. He has a generous curve from the get go (85-100 is an A) and has some goofy jokes. I thought the TA sucked though.
