Consider yourself very lucky if you manage to get into Dr. Shapiro's class; she is a fantastic teacher in general, but especially wonderful in upper division courses, or if you are considering physical anthropology in the future. Her lectures are interesting and very informative. The material is not too difficult, but make an honest effort to stay on top of things, because readings build up. The TA I had (Katherine Whitcome) was always ready to help and very nice, as was Dr. Shapiro. Grades for this course were based on two tests, lab assignments, a term paper, a lab quiz and a lab final and a small percentage was participation. It was the perfect level of difficulty for me. Not designed to destroy your GPA, but you need to work for a good grade, and that just helps you learn the material better. Really interesting course and a great professor with a good personality. FYI - Dr. Shapiro is THE expert on the vertebral column, which is very, very cool.

Dr. Shapiro and the TAs were all very helpful and they wanted the students to do well. There is a lab portion but much of the work is credited for completion and it's usually pretty interesting. She posts the powerpoint lectures online so you can study them and likes to use multimedia, video clips and websites and such, in class. Overall I really enjoyed the course!
