Yeah, I really didn't like her at all. She rambles on about pointless things at the beginning of lecture, so she never finishes her lecture, and what she doesn't go over (which is substantial), you have to look up in the book because you will have to know it for the test. She also is irritatingly patronizing, and teaches as if you have never heard anything about US history before in your life. Another thing, she assigns a lot of novels other than the text, but she also makes them all due at the end. Our class was divided up into three sections, and the first two sections only had a novel each assigned to them. No biggie. But the last third of the course, she expects you to read 4-5 novels in addition to the text and to be able to include them in her cumulative final. She simply doesn't seem to have a well thought out lesson or course plan. Also, her lectures are not organized at all, which makes it difficult to prepare outlines for the tests. The only good thing about her class: she gives a review sheet which includes everything that will be on the exam, so you never get surprises. In my opinion, I would try to get a different prof if at all possible.

I took HIS Women&Illness writing component w/her. I liked her. She was a very nice, considerate, easy to talk to professor that made for a very nice class ambiance. She is very lenient with deadlines. Daily class consisted of a quick written answer "quiz" question followed by lecture/discussion(there was the occasional movie). Only down side is that she does assign a LOT of reading, probably the heaviest reading assignments i've encountered so far at UT. (of course, i am NOT a history major!)

avoid her if possible, i cannot believe she is the assistant dean of the history dept! she knows less than the students at times, i vividly recall anytime a student asked her a question, she did not generally know the answer and waved off the question as if it were nonesense...when a lot of other students knew the answer because it was part of the required reading or JUST PLAIN COMMON KNOWLEDGE. she doesnt know all of her material...places general times and vague concepts in her lectures...horrible...horrible

I had her for women's reproductive health, and I thought the course overall was very good. She does ramble on and doesn't cover everything that will be on the exam but she is fair and emphasizes the points you need to know. Also, there is no homework or heavy reading. There is a very open environment where you can ask questions. The only bad point was that although the exams weren't difficult they are very tight on time, but there is a review sheet that is straight on the exams.

There is no need to go to class or the discussion sections. Her lecture outlines are all online. The important thing is doing the reading. She basically gives you a set of questions before the exam. Collaborate with other people, prepare a good set of answers and you're set.

I LOVE Professor Seaholm and I wish I was a history major just so I could take more classes from her. Her lectures are very interesting, there isn't THAT much reading, and she is so so kind and accommodating if something should go legitimately wrong. Her grading policy (which she goes over with the TA's before during and after the grading process) is fairly lenient. You need to know the material from the review, but just make flashcards with the info and then link them to the essay questions on the exam and you will be FINE. This is NOT a hard class. She is NOT patronizing, and she does NOT pointlessly ramble at the beginning of lectures but rather reviews important points from the previous lecture. You don't even really have to attend because the review is so comprehensive, but you would be missing out! Love her!

She is the best lecturer I've ever had. I really liked how she used multiple resources (textbooks, novels, political cartoons, old photos, movies, etc.) to totally encompass her topics. It's obvious she cares about history and wants to share what makes it interesting. I went into this class dreading it but it became my favorite class that semester.

She no longer gives comprehensive reviews. I repeat, NO COMPREHENSIVE REVIEWS. You will be surprised what is on the exam. I re-read the entire 4 chapters covered for the course, answered all the questions in the end of each chapter, took notes, and attended every lecture. The exam review was basically study everything since we started... so I did. The exam turns out to be one not over anything we covered in class or in the official reading but instead over individual people in history and their beliefs. I got burnt and made a C after doing everything I could to make an A. She apparently stopped doing reviews because of google docs which is the worst excuse I have ever heard. She is patronizing in her lectures and hates technology.
