Review from a student who took E 325
LaSalle is great. He's a funny old man who finds some way to make a subtle reference to his old hippy days in every lecture. The course is a pretty rudimentary course on writing, but it gets more in depth as it goes along. There's a bit of reading, with minor class discussion, four short stories and no final. I've heard the other writing professors are a lot more harsh than he is. Tough to get an A, but the class atmoshphere was so lax and comfortable, I didn't even mind the B or that it was a 6-7:30 class. Fun class, fun guy.

if you had to sit thru 325 with him, all he does in any more advanced class is repeat his previous lectures verbatim. it's incredible, he even reuses the same handouts. somehow he creates a tense, uncomfortable atmosphere during workshopping. he's not a bad; he can be funny. he gives mediocre critique, but he is the least creative professor i've ever had, and has done nothing to improve my writing. would not recommend beyond 325.
