Review from a student who took CS 303E
I had prof. Krasner in Fall 01 when he was new. His lectures were STRAIGHT from the handouts, his example code rarely compiled, and the compiler he told us to use for our programs was *MAC FOR WINDOWS*. He had never taught a class in JAVA before, and was not even very good at using it. He was not familliar with a PC, which is the computer used in class, and was not very good at answering questions. I reccomend anyone not already well familiarized with JAVA and/or programming, to find another prof.

I would NOT recommend this class to anyone who hasn't had programming experience before. If you want to take this just for science credit or something, DON'T. There are plenty of other sciences out there. It's not that he's a bad professor.... he just doesn't explain very well. That's why so many people have dropped the course. Only take this class if you've had previous experience.

The class is a very hard class. It says that you can take it without having any programming experience. You can, but if you do it will be the only thing that you do all semester. Your choice.
Review from a student who took CS303e
I had basic hobbiest programming experiance, but not enough to make CS307. I took Krasner's CS303e, and it was an easy A. A couple notes, though. TAs sucked. My TA could not communicate well in English, teach concepts, or answer questions. I hear that Greg was a good TA, though. I never showed up on time to the actual lectures... EVER. That didn't hurt me at all, since the printed slides -were- the course. CS303e, starting this fall, is not going to be what it used to be. I don't think Krasner is going to be teaching anymore, Young will be doing CS303e, and Mike Scott will be teaching CS305J, the new CS303e for CS Majors. From now on, CS303e will be soley for the Elements of Computing program. What should you do? If you want to try a new beginning programming course, take CS305J with Scott. He's an AWESOME prof. That's pretty much it.

I strongly recommend Dr. K's Metrics and Measurements class. It was the highlight of my graduate studies and had direct use on my job after I completed my master's degree. I took my knowledge fromt this course and started a software metrics program and my employer and it was highly received. Dr. K was fun, interesting, and taught a great deal as far aof knowledge.
