Review from a student who took BIO 212
I had Dr.Jasper for Bio 212 (first time she taught it). All I have to say is, her tests are ridiculously easy and right off her outlines that she has online. Out of her 150 students, usually 30-40 of them obtain A's. Her lectures are ALMOST COMPLETELY off of her outlines, so make sure u print those. No quizzes or anything of that sort during lecture, so if your confident, feel free to skip a few times. True, there are loads of information to memorize, but just read the book and read the outlines and you'll do fine.

Success in this class is based off of printing out online lecture notes and attending discussion sections. During lectures, Professor Jasper basically reads off of the online lecture notes. But she does try to keep it interesting by including some relevant pictures and educational movie clips here and there. Grading is based off of 4 Exams and 1 Optional final exam that is cumulative. Exam questions are multiple choice with a few fill in the blank and they are all based off of lecture notes and her lectures so it would be wise to not skip. The other portion of your grade comes from attendance and writing two 2-page papers that are essentially grade boosters. The biology book is hardly used at all. For a nonmajor biology course, it pretty much gets a easy-medium difficulty. You can earn an A-B grade as long as you keep up with the work/readings and don't slack.

Don't take Dr. Jasper for BIO 213.

Dr. Jasper is a racist moron. Although she knows a lot about water beatles (her area of research) she doesn't know much about other insects. If you ask her a question in class, nine times out of ten her answer will be "i dont know." Not only is she an idiot, but she made several anti-French and pro-war comments during her lectures. I'm not really sure what these comments had to do with entomology, but she managed to make them. Furthermore, her teaching style is ridiculous. She only comments on things she has an over-head for, so her coverage of material is very narrow. You would think this would equate little material to study, but oh no. You have to memorize so much material for the test, and when it comes to test time, the test is only 1 page! Dr. Jasper is a joke, and if you are interested in entomology, you should take it in the fall with Dr. Abbot.
