Professor profile for Robert Gompf
Student reviews of Robert Gompf
Review from a student who took M 365C and M 367K
Prof. Gompf is rather quiet and soft-spoken, so for that reason I don't recommend taking him for a lower-division class in a lecture hall with 100 or so students. But he is a great professor for the upper division classes he teaches. A very clear explicator, he takes really difficult proofs and makes them understandable, which some of the UD profs just can't do. His exams are appropriate for the level of the course, but you have to be careful when he tells you the difficulty level: I made a 59 on the "easy" analysis midterm and a 96 on the "hard" analysis final -- but if it's any consolation, those were both A's. Dr. Gompf is also a friendly and accessible guy outside of class.
