The course workload consists of 2 exams and a final (not comprehensive).... Bombed the first two? No worries, there will be an optional part on the final exam that will replace the first two if higher. Overall, his notes on the internet and textbook are your guides to an A or B. 55 Questions per exam, about 60% are quotes. The Simpsons footages makes class entertaining and not so much a burden. Not the easier professor, but you'll have fun.

Prof Bonevac has a very humorous and witty personality. His lectures were fast paced and the book (which he wrote) is very detailed.. lectures are posted online. However, I skipped his class many times because I kept falling asleep in it (found phl too boring.. although I always woke up when he showed his Simpsons' clips).. he gives both essays and MCQ tests and does some complex calculations at the end of the course to see in which aspect you got a better grade and uses it for your final score. The final had 2 parts, a mandatory part, and an optional part which you could skip if you didn't need to pull up your grades. In terms of coping, I found it possible to skip a lot of the class and still score in tests by reading the book (since a lot of material in the lecture is from the book). He gives all the essay questions at the start of term so you can do them all in a shot if you want. It was certainly an interesting class, but it was not very fun.

There's nothing I can really say that hasn't already been said-it's a class that you do need to attend and read for, or at least pay attention to the lectures (like me!) Just showing up, listening, and doing the work (with some "light reading") will quite easily get you a B. He uses quotes on his tests, which are pretty difficult, but hey, he could be tossing out the most impossible test ever, for all I care-the Simpsons clips make up for everything.

Not as easy as you've been told. True he plays Simpsons, but the quotes on the test were ridiculous. He posts lecture on-line and his book was fairly interesting. A lot of reading goes into a good grade

I took world philosophy with Bonevac, his lectures are really interesting and from the book. He also puts his powerpoint slides online. After the first two weeks I rarely went to class, but I read the book and his slides and got an A fairly easily. Take his practice test online and memorize the questions, lots of them come up again on the real thing. Overall, a great class to take.

Bonevac is awesome! He's witty, extremely intelligent, and very interesting. He'll wake up the class with clever Simpson's clips that actually have the class laughing as if at home. Somehow, they perfectly tie in with his lecture, and you actually remember certain clips for the test. He's great and funny. All there really is are papers due from time to time and his exams. His exams are a combination of quotes, which can be difficult, and multiple choice questions. Just study his notes carefully, and your'e good with a B. Potential Philospohy majors, consider Bonevac definitely. Just for fun Philosophy students, consider his Simpson's clips!

I didn't think this was an easy class. There is a built in curve with the tests, 55 questions, 2 points each. So you could make a 110 although no one has ever done it. Since I had a crappy TA who determines half of my grade, Bonevac was nice enough to curve her sections.

The Simpson's clips that he shows in almost every clas really helps make things interesting. Who would have thought that a bunch of Philosophers were the writers for The Simpson's??? :-) His lectures are interesting, and his powerpoint slides are available on line to access to study for tests. He gives you a ten point buffer on the tests, meaning he'll put 55 questions on the tests and you can miss 5 questions but still make a 100. I enjoy the class--it's a nice class to take for an elective. The reading isn't too intensive.

bonevac is the best professor i've ever had. period. he is interesting, funny, brilliant, and laid back. you want to do well on your papers just to show him all the things he taught you.

He's not easy, but he's reasonable. He curves the tests if everyone does bad, he tells you exactly which philosophers he's going to quote on the tests. His lectures are stellar.

Hehe, I really liked Dr. Bonevac. He was such an upbeat guy, and he never got mad at us or anything. He was always in a good mood, which was good because it made the class fun. We had awesome Simpson clips, and that was always funny and fun. His tests are fairly easy, not too bad...so if you study, you'll probably do well in the class. Just remember to go to lecture because they are pretty important, and also remember to read the book because that helps when it comes to test time. Other than that, I think you'll really enjoy his class!

I took PHL 301 with Bonevac and I'm glad I did. I don't enjoy philosophy at all but I was still able to get through this class. His lectures come from pwpt slides which are posted online--this is really helpful come test time since you can just print them out. Also, his lectures have the simpsons clips which make them interesting. Still, I had trouble staying awake during lectures so I ended up skipping the class altogether but I was still able to pull off an A because the slides were online and he was really nice when it came down to test grades. If the test was hard, he would curve the grade to compensate. even if you skip class, as long as you get the pwpt slides you should be ok. The only thing hard about this class are the essays and even then, those are not that bad. It depends on the TA, but its still pretty easy. If you have to take PHL 301, Bonevac is probably the best professor to get.

If you are looking for a philosophy class where you want to actually learn, then this is the class. Bonevac is a very good lecturer but if you're not interested in the subject, it can be quite boring. He tries to spice it up with Simpsons' clips here and there. [in my class the sound never worked so that was kind of pointless] If you study his notes very carefully and thoroughly, write decent papers, you can easily get a b in his class. But if you want to get an A, you have to read the book and pay attention in his lectures.

Good prof, not an EASY 'a' but not hard, just do a lil work and you can probably make an 'a' in the class.
