Dr Bierner is a great guy. To do well in this class you just need to know his notes (which are online) inside out. Some questions he throws at you in the exam are very tricky also he doesnt drop a test so if you dont do well on one of them you have to work very hard on the rest but otherwise his lectures are very organised and interesting. My TA wasnt that helpful though. The discussion quizzes are 19% of the grade so do well on those which requires you to study every week. Also attendance is 10% of the grade so be there and be there on time to get 50 free points. Also getting there early means you get to hear some good music , he dos have good taste. I would recommend this class if you have a got memory and preferrable if english is your first language because some test question are very strangely stated to understand. Good luck

This guy is probably one of the best Bio 212 professors on campus, after talking to a lot of other people. You don't really have to write notes cause he provides them on the net on his website. His lectures are very well made, with demonstrations of processes animated out, and often he makes humorous quips. Do not skip this class or the discussion sections. It will help you if you are borderline (you'll find out about this if you take his class). If you take this class, there, like I just mentioned required discussion sections, where you review the material and take a quiz, which is fairly easy once you get used to it administered by the TA (sometimes by Bierner himself when the TA can't). The only problem I had with this class was that it was early (9AM) and that his tests could be often tricky. There would be questions in which one of the choices would be correct if it wasn't for one word. He also has a lot of test questions that ask like "A, B, C, A and B but not C, All of the above" and that can be tricky. But nevertheless, it is possible to make an A in this course if you try, go to class consistantly, study for the test, and pay attention in class.

Bierner had some of the best lectures I've had at UT. I'd definitely say he was one of my favorite profs. The main problem I had with him was the format of his tests. I didn't have time to complete the second test which was over punnet sqaure crap. I guess I didn't study it enough, but you should definitely learn that stuff throughly. Do every example and do them a lot. In fact, memorize how certain problems work because they will be all over the test...maybe with different symbols representing a Dominant Homozygous something or other, but more or less it will be the same. I studied considerably more for the final and it was then that I realized that the tests weren't all that hard. His questions do confuse you if you don't know the material throughly. MEMORIZE HIS NOTES! Overall, this guy rocked and it was my sheer laziness that prevented the A.

Great professor! His notes are typed up and available on his webpage, and he has an EXCELLENT TA. Take him for BIO212 if you want to learn and get a good grade! You should get an A as long as you study the notes before the tests. There are also quizzes after each discussion, but you will learn almost everything on the quiz during the discussion.

Dr Bierner is a pretty cool guy. His lecture notes are online, which makes it awesome. Just print them out, read them over before class, and during class write down only what you need. Study the notes properly before the tests, and you'll do fine. His tests are a little bit hard, because most questions are like this: A. .... B. ..... C. ............ D. A & B are correct, but C is not. E. A, B, and C are correct. So if you dont pay attention to the details, these kinds of question will get you. Other than that, he's a fair professor, who puts up some cool music before lecture begins, and can be funny.

Man, I'm going to miss this guy. He was a really great teacher. He doesn't expect you to know more than he has taught you. He gives us great notes from the book, and these really help because then we don't have to take notes ourselves, which is a time saver. And he only expects you to know what is in the notes and that's awesome. Get this guy...he's great!

This was one of the most interesting classes I have taken, and it was because Bierner was such a great professor. He makes things so easy to understand, there is no reason anyone can't get an A.
