The PLA's entry into Kashmir equals braech of regional security to Indians and rightly so. Would China ever accept stealth entry of Indian troops into Tibet on the pretext of economic development? Indians see Pakistanis as no more than dumb neighborhood nuisance backed by US aid and Saudi petrodollars, along with moral support from China. Textbooks in Pakistan preach lies and India hatred. This is because Pakistan's motto from the the day it came into existence has been to be Not India . That explains the 85% approval rating China gets in Pakistan which has gone beyond lack of identity, denial, and confusion. Indians and Pakistanis are the same people (twins with the same culture, food, language, etc.) partitioned into two separate states 60+ years ago when the Brits left. The missing piece is the stark lack of a South-Asian identity as a driver of common interests, or its subversion in the name of Islam which makes no sense either. This is happily exploited by China to further its own geopolitical interests. But make no mistake China's recent moves should be troubling not only to Indian and Pakistani polity, but it also poses a strong challenge by a confident China to US interests in the region. One mistake here and our long-term regional interests would be severely jeopardized.
