Student reviews of Juliet Walker

Review from a student who took HIS 357C
Dr. Walker is funny and intelligent, although she has a bit of a "Miss Thang" attitude. For instance, in class she asked anyone for suggestions to improve her teaching. One person raised his hand and said, "You could elaborate more from the outline lectures," and she replied, "Oh, I elaborate plenty; it's not my fault you don't come to class to hear me elaborate." Aside from that, this class is quite easy. It's almost an insult to the intelligence. Her lectures are useless, she normally digresses, so you don't really have to go to class. There is a ten page take home mid-term, but it's just a couple hours worth of work that can be done in one night. There is also a research paper worth 40% and a take home final (again ten pages) worth 30%. You don't have to study, just need to do the readings for the take home papers. She also gives ample opportunity for extra credit, so it is pretty easy to make an A.
Review from a student who took HIS 357D
Dr. Walker is a mishap in the Department of History. Not only does she assign seven books to read over the course of a semester, she also requires a 10-page research paper which must include eight books, five journals, and an oral source. Her work load is excessive. Each test is a 13-page paper. She doesn't return emails, sometimes she doesn't show up for class or office hours, and she's not a good lecturer. Dr. Walker makes fun of people in class, digresses too much, and makes it difficult to write a 13-page paper when we barely cover the things we have to write about. I HIGHLY recommend you steer clear of this professor. You will save yourself a lot of time and grief. It is a shame to have had such an awful professor for such an interesting class.
