Vaaler is a pretty good prof overall -- his lectures are VERY detailed but also very clear, and his homework assignments are very reasonable, even light. Tests are pretty fair (although I bombed the 381D midterm, but I think that was my fault), and although he doesn't have a stated policy to this effect, he's very reasonable about making up missed exams (I learned the hard way).
