Student reviews of Kiryl Tsishchanka

Review from a student who took M 328K
Prof. Tsishchanka is probably one of those professors you either love or hate. I thought he was great, but I also know several people who hated him. Tsishchanka earned the moniker of "the Crazy Russian" from me because he's just that -- a crazy Russian. He sometimes does things in class that can only be described as "antics," such as desparately spinning the handle on the pencil sharpener -- to try and raise the overhead projector screen. Exams weren't too terribly difficult, in fact I thought they were rather easy. Tsishchanka is quite an amusing character, and if you have any mathematical aptitude whatsoever I recommend his class just for his antics alone.
Review from a student who took M340L
He is rude with students. He is harder than normal in grading. All the class are Chemical and Electrical engineers and they are struggling.

Funny guy and great class
Review from a student who took M 427J
Dr. Tsishchanka is the most thorough, patient, and hardworking professor I have experienced. I find his teaching style incredibly effective, and I have heard similar reviews from classmates. He explains every single step of the material clearly, thoroughly, and slowly enough that students can keep up. He frequently encourages questions from students and pauses between steps to give students time to ask questions. If you ask a question, professor Tsishchanka will not move on until you confirm that he has answered the question to your satisfaction. The difficulty of exams reflect that of the practice problems on his website, and therefore the exams are fair. His grading system is different than what I'm used to, but it is nonetheless fair. It is clear that Dr. Tsishchanka puts in tremendous effort to provide students with the necessary tools to succeed; his website provides many many past test problems, learning tools, recommended homework problems, and PDF handouts of all sections covered in the course. I really cannot think of what else Dr. Tsishchanka can do for his students. If you use the tools he provides, you have solid chances of success. Do not ignore the usefulness of these tools, especially the past test problems which are available for each section. Do not hesitate to ask questions at all, as professor Tsishchanka will be more than happy to explain further and will surely answer your questions satisfactorily. Due to his thoroughness, I recommend Dr. Tsishchanka to students who struggle with math (as well as all students in general).
