I learned so much from this coure. Traphagan focused on important current issues and helped us evaluate them from multiple viewpoints. For the class we had three 2-page papers and a final paper. He grades fairly, as long as you have sufficient evidence in your paper, and he's nice about helping you if you have problems developing your ideas.

I really like Dr. Traphagan. His lectures were interesting and he really gave me a satisfactory idea of some of the issues facing Japanese society. He doesn't buy into all of the "Japan is a mystical place, and they are so different from the west" rather he brings out a lot of good ethnographies that give you pretty pretty good incite into Japan. Despite the grades posted I felt his class was not too hard. Just go to class and consult him about papers and you should do alright.
