Student reviews of Michael Starbird
Review from a student who took M 310
A very interesting man who truly enjoys the subject matter. The topics seem unrelated to anything which you would actually ever use but the concepts are generally easy to grasp. Starbird has an interesting style of lecture which encourages thought by seeking both involvement and learning through trial and error. In my experience, if you go to class most of the time, complete the homework assignments, and put forth effort on the final project, you can get an A in the class regardless of test scores.

Review from a student who took UGS 303
I know that Michael Starbird is a mathematics professor but I took his UGS course, 5 Elements of Effective Thinking as a freshmen. His course is super cool and interesting because the course, 5 Elements of Effective Thinking is actually a book that Michael Starbird co-authored with Professor Edward Burger. The book and class follows the agenda of the 5 elements which is to 1. think deeply 2. make mistakes 3. ask questions 4. follow the flow of ideas 5. change. It might sound a bit cheesy but I think it helped me with my every day life to solve problems. The grades are super easy to get an A in and his lectures are interesting. Everything aside, he is such a jolly, optimistic man to talk to so go to his office hours and participate in class and you'll get the best out of the lectures. Tests are mostly all essays that the TA grades. My TA graded really easily but it would depend on the TA. Overall awesome professor and class that really doesn't take a whole lot of effort to get a good grade in.

Fe2yvs Seriously like the breakdown of the subject above. I have not seen lots of solid posts on the subject but you did a outstanding job.
